European Startup Funding Recap: October 15, 2026 Raises

A busy funding day saw European startups secure capital across AI infrastructure, fintech, deeptech, and sustainability, with Skeleton Technologies crossing the $1B valuation mark.

Unicorn Alert and Major Growth Rounds

The headline of the day belongs to Skeleton Technologies, the Tallinn-based developer of high-power systems for AI infrastructure, which announced a nine-digit strategic investment from Siemens. The deal pushes Skeleton's valuation above $1 billion, making it one of the few European hardware companies to reach unicorn status on the back of AI data-center demand. The company plans to use the funds to expand US manufacturing and grow R&D activities in Silicon Valley.

Salience Labs also made a strong impression, closing a $125M oversubscribed Series B to scale its photonic chips for AI data-center connectivity. The round underscores how optical switching technology is attracting serious institutional interest as hyperscalers hunt for more efficient interconnects.

Series A Rounds Worth Watching

  • Duvo, the enterprise AI startup founded by Rohlik veteran Tomas Cupr, raised $32M in a Series A led by Balderton Capital, with Index Ventures, Northzone, and Credo Ventures participating.
  • Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, Spain's only full-stack quantum computing company, completed a first close of its Series A at €20M, led by Indra Group through its IndraMind sovereign AI initiative.
  • Dougs, a profitable Lyon-based accounting platform serving small businesses, raised €50M from Expedition Growth Capital to accelerate AI-driven automation of financial workflows.

Seed and Pre-Seed Activity

Earlier-stage deals were plentiful and spanned a wide range of sectors.

  • Matters, an AI personal finance platform, raised $5M in a pre-seed round.
  • Marklo AI, an AI marketing startup founded by Jessica Herrin of Stella and Dot fame, raised $5M in seed funding led by Forerunner.
  • Miracly, an AI marketing automation platform developed by TheWild Ventures, launched with a €2M pre-seed round.
  • FLÆ Robotics, a Czech startup building an AI hospitality agent called BE-A, raised over €1M in seed funding from Purple Ventures and Garage Angels.
  • Ambio, a Helsinki-based AI procurement platform for recycled plastics, closed a €5M seed round led by b2venture, with Montis and Lifeline Ventures also participating.
  • Stride, a UK preventative health startup, raised £5M in seed funding to expand its diagnostics-driven platform internationally.
  • KP Labs, a Polish spacetech company processing satellite data in orbit, secured €4M from Momentum Capital Partners.

Fund Closes and Ecosystem Moves

Nauta, the London-based pan-European VC, announced the first close of its sixth fund at €60M, anchored by a €30M commitment from the British Business Bank. The fund targets B2B software and DeepTech startups from pre-seed through Series A.

In Nigeria, Cascador and Sterling Bank launched a $200M fund designed to help local startups access bank loans by sharing default risk between the two institutions.

The/Nudge, an Indian nonprofit-linked organization, secured $15M from Google.org to build AI tools helping small businesses access credit, markets, and compliance support.

NVIDIA also announced planned minority investments in four French startups: Doctolib, Entalpic, Genesis AI, and Pigment, as part of a broader European commitment approaching €9 billion.

What the Day Signals

October 15 reinforced two converging themes. First, AI infrastructure hardware is no longer a purely US story. Skeleton Technologies and Salience Labs both raised on the strength of European engineering applied directly to hyperscaler pain points, suggesting that hardware-layer bets in Europe are maturing faster than many expected. Second, AI is being layered into very traditional industries, from accounting and hotel management to plastics procurement and personal finance. Investors appear willing to back vertical AI plays even at the seed stage, provided the founding team has domain credibility. The volume of pre-seed and seed rounds, spread across multiple geographies, points to a healthy pipeline building beneath the headline unicorn numbers.
