Startup Funding Roundup August 14 2026: AI, Fintech, and Foodtech

Series A Rounds: AI and Fintech Lead the Way

The largest closes of the day came at the Series A stage, with capital flowing heavily into AI infrastructure and financial services.

  • Mindgard, a Lancaster University spinout operating out of Boston and London, raised approximately $30M (EUR 26M) in a Series A to scale its enterprise AI security platform. The round was led by Album VC, with participation from Karma Ventures, .406 Ventures, Atlantic Bridge, and IQ Capital.
  • Centricity, an Indian fintech startup, closed a Series A worth approximately $33M (Rs 280 Cr) led by SMBC Asia Rising Fund. The company plans to strengthen its technology stack and expand its distribution network across India.

These two raises reflect a shared thesis: as AI adoption accelerates across enterprise and financial services, the infrastructure needed to secure and distribute those systems is attracting serious early-growth capital.

Seed and Pre-Seed Rounds: Climate, Food, and Industrial Tech

Smaller raises on the day spanned a wide range of industries, with a notable cluster in sustainability and industrial applications.

  • AMDB Security Pro, a Lyon-based engineering firm making mechanical anti-theft systems for excavators, raised approximately $3M (EUR 2.68M) in a Seed round from two American private investors. The company intends to use the funding to establish operations in the United States.
  • Millow, a Gothenburg-based foodtech company producing mycelium and oat-based protein ingredients, raised EUR 2M to expand production capacity and grow its commercial team for the Nordic foodservice market. The round was led by angel investor Magnus Emilson, with participation from Jan Enhager, co-founder of Vitamin Well.
  • Metal Morph, a UK-based water technology startup, raised GBP 700K in pre-seed funding to advance its platform for recovering industrial resources from wastewater treatment processes.

These raises, while smaller in absolute terms, point to sustained investor appetite for startups attacking physical-world problems, whether that means protecting heavy equipment on a job site, replacing animal protein in commercial kitchens, or reclaiming metals from industrial effluent.

Valuations to Watch

One deal in progress drew attention without a confirmed close.

  • Legora, a legal AI startup, is reportedly in talks to raise at a valuation of $10B, according to Sifted. No round size or lead investor has been confirmed at this stage.

If the Legora raise closes near that figure, it would mark one of the more significant legal-tech valuations in recent memory and would signal that AI applications built specifically for professional services are now commanding multiples previously reserved for horizontal platforms.

What Today's Raises Signal

The mix of funding activity on August 14 underscores a pattern that has held through much of 2026: capital is not concentrating in a single theme but is spreading across verticals wherever AI or sustainability can be credibly bolted onto a real operational problem. The Mindgard and Centricity raises show that enterprise security and emerging-market fintech remain high-conviction bets for institutional investors. Meanwhile, the cluster of sub-EUR 3M rounds in food, water, and industrial hardware suggests that earlier-stage backers are comfortable funding deep-tech solutions that will take time to scale, so long as the underlying problem is large and the regulatory tailwinds are favorable. The rumored Legora valuation, if confirmed, would add a legal-AI data point that investors across the board will be watching closely.
