Startup Funding Recap September 1 2026: Top Raises This Week

A bumper day of funding announcements spans clean energy, battery materials, quantum computing, medtech, and emerging market venture capital.

Clean Energy and Climate Tech

The headline raise of the day came from residential electrification:

  • Cloover, $100M financing facility, undisclosed lenders. The European energy platform, which covers residential solar, heat pumps, and home electrification, reached this milestone alongside an announcement that it has turned profitable at a revenue run rate above $350M, just three years after launch.
  • Foldcast, approximately $175K (EUR 160K), Venture Kick. The Swiss construction tech startup is developing recyclable paper moulds that reduce concrete use in building projects.

Battery Materials and Deep Tech Hardware

Hardware bets dominated the mid-stage dealflow:

  • Nexeon, approximately $133M (EUR 117M), National Wealth Fund (lead), Korea Development Bank, Honda Xcelerator Ventures. The Oxfordshire-based firm makes advanced silicon-based battery materials and plans to use the capital to expand manufacturing capacity.
  • S-Transistors, approximately $2.9M (EUR 2.6M), Lifeline Ventures (lead). The Finnish spin-out from VTT Technical Research Centre is building superconducting transistors aimed at what it calls a quantum motherboard, with initial applications in quantum computing control systems.

Healthcare and MedTech

Two very different health bets attracted capital:

  • Elekta, EUR 100M loan, European Investment Bank. The Stockholm-based healthtech company will use the EIB financing, issued under the TechEU programme, to advance R&D in cancer treatment and neurological therapies.
  • KOVE Medical, approximately $1.9M (EUR 1.7M), angel syndicate. The Zurich medtech startup is developing an implantable device to reduce preterm birth risk following foetal surgery and plans to progress toward First-in-Human trials.

Cybersecurity and Enterprise SaaS

Early-stage software rounds rounded out the European deal activity:

  • xorlab, approximately $5.5M (EUR 5M), lead investor not disclosed. The European email security company raised a Series A+ round to fund expansion across Europe and continued platform development.
  • EquityList announced the launch of an AI-native cap table and compliance platform. The company, which already manages more than $20B in securities across 650-plus companies, is adding AI capabilities to equity management and compliance workflows. No new external funding was reported alongside the product launch.

Emerging Market Venture Capital

Fund formation activity was notable in Africa and India:

  • Mamor Capital, $19M first close, self-led. The South African VC is targeting $34M in total and will focus on South African technology companies with existing paying customers.
  • Redstone, EUR 10M, North Karelia Growth Fund II. The German VC launched its second Finnish regional fund targeting deeptech, defence, and energy transition, with backing from the City of Joensuu, Broman Group, and the University of Eastern Finland.
  • NIIF (National Investment and Infrastructure Fund, India) reached a first close of roughly $227M (Rs 19,000 Cr) for its second infrastructure fund, anchored by the Indian government with participation from overseas sovereign funds and domestic financial institutions.

Consumer and Food

  • Jagdish Farshan, approximately $5M (Rs 43.5 Cr), Sharrp Ventures (lead). The Gujarat-based regional snack brand will deploy the capital toward geographic expansion.

Today's deal activity points to a few clear signals. Capital is concentrating in physical infrastructure plays, battery materials, clean energy platforms, and deep hardware bets like quantum computing, at a time when software multiples remain compressed. The Cloover profitability announcement is a notable data point: climate tech businesses built on project finance and recurring service contracts are beginning to demonstrate that unit economics can work without perpetual subsidy. Meanwhile, the fund launches from Mamor Capital and Redstone both reflect continued conviction in regional, thesis-driven vehicles even as generalist mega-funds pull back. Taken together, the day's raises suggest investors are rewarding capital efficiency and tangible technology differentiation above almost everything else.
